Karina’s Artistic Journey

  • She Fell in Love with Creation

    Traditionally: Drawing on Paper

When I first started to drawing in my sketchbooks, I didn’t like most of them. Something always looked off or was drawn incorrectly, throwing off the whole image. However, I quickly learned that using references is extremely helpful when creating a design.

Some artists may not need any references at all and can draw from memory. Watching a lot of tutorials from different artists on YouTube was also helpful in my journey. It started as random doodles, but over time, I have developed my own style, and I know it will only continue to improve.

Cornelia, an artist I look up too and I adore her style!

    Digital Art, Procreate

First introduced to digital art by my aunt, who is a few years older than I am. I loved watching her draw on her tablet, and seeing the process as she went was so amazing. After saving a good amount of money, I decided to treat myself to an iPad and an Apple Pencil. Drawing digitally is a completely different experience, and I’m still learning new tips/tricks to help me draw more efficiently.

Procreate is highly recommended by a lot of artists because of how user friendly it is.

I followed a tutorial on coloring the lips and adding more detail after I completed my sketch. At first, it was overwhelming because it felt as though the steps would never end. As I was drawing and seeing it come together, it gave me some hope that it would at least turn out decent. I was extremely happy with the result. Following the tutorial using different techniques and colors helped me improve.
